Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Our community partner is the Wright Patterson Air Force Base.  This agency was chosen for several reasons, just read below!

FACTS: Wright-Patterson ...
  • is in many measures the largest, most diverse and organizationally complex base in the Air Force. Missions range from logistics management, research and development, education, flight operations, and many other defense related activities.

  • is the home of the headquarters of a vast worldwide logistics system supporting the entire Air Force.

  • is the foremost aeronautical research and development center in the Air Force.

  • has a work force numbering approximately 24,000 people, making it the fifth largest employer in the state of Ohio and the largest employer at a single location. Approximately 15,000 of these people are civilians.

  • is home for more than 70 units representing 7 different Air Force commands and a host of DOD organizations.

  • has some of the finest family oriented recreational programs in the Air Force.

  • has a very modern commissary-base exchange complex with nearly four acres under one roof, making it one of the Air Forces largest and best.

  • has approximately 1,600 facilities on base plus 2,365 units of family housing.

  • pays out nearly $3 million in salaries every day of the year - a payroll of approximately $1.2 billion annually.

  • has the second largest medical center in the Air Force.

  • employs almost one of every twelve people working in the greater Dayton area.

  • has about 10,000 scientists and engineers employed here.

  • is a great place to live, work, and play.

We had the assistance of an engineer that works out of the Educational Outreach Office.  Bob specializes in electrical energy.  He is a W.O.W. instructor (Wizards of Wright) that goes to area schools and carries out experiments in the classroom.  Isn't that COOL!

The United States Air Force Museum is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world. The Museum uses both chronological and subjective layouts to tell the exciting story of aviation development from the days of the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk to the Space Age. Exhibits include over 250 aircraft and missiles, plus family oriented and historically interesting aeronautical displays.
